We want to raise the $30,000 needed over the next few weeks to fund the pantry for the whole year .

Beginning on November 1, we will begin our fast.  Most do bread and water, some do their own rendition.  But all commit to fast until they individually raise $1,000.

+Thank you for helping us to have a wonderful Spring Basketball League that served over 100 children in 3^rd-6^th grade from four neighborhood schools.

+Thank you for supporting a fantastic summer program that registered over 350 children and had one of our highest average daily attendance records of 125 children.  We had over 40 very active teen volunteers and 20 more who came and put in a few hours.  We had 20 super adults, including some who came from out of state!

+ We renovated the part of the building formerly used by San Anto Cultural Arts and moved in the emergency clothing service. It’s very ruby-red pink and since they also painted the ceiling, you kind of feel like you are standing inside a Texas grapefruit. Thanks to CaraMae Garcia’s help, we ordered some REAL clothing racks. It looks great.

+Special thanks to Liz Ortiz and the students from St. Luke’s for helping with the summer program!

+Another thanks to the Franciscan Sisters who provided two woman volunteers through their Common Venture program.

+We need volunteers to help with the emergency clothing service on Mondays from 9:30 to noon. Fold and sort clothes, assist the clients.

STILL WORKING ON CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Goal of $160,000

In our October newsletter last year, we let you know that we were embarking on a capital improvements campaign.  With ICD being an all-volunteer organization and with our programs being very busy, this has been a slow effort.  But, we really need the room.  Once again, activities for the summer program were very crowded.  The Christmas Toy Sale is always a challenge for room. On-going community activities—whether it is a baby shower, funeral reception, or a fundraiser—are always crowded for lack of space.

Our main effort is to expand the “Big Room”.  We will also be improving access for people with disabilities.

Once again, we appeal to you or any foundations or charitable organizations or individuals you may know who could help us with this effort.  We are planning a presentation for people interested in helping financially.  Please call us at 210.224.7239 if you know anyone you think we should invite.

As of noon today we had met our goal of $30,000 and will be able to fund the emergency food pantry for 2011.
